Colorado Chapter Board of Directors

CHIMSS is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is elected each year by CHIMSS Members. The 2017-2018 Board is listed below.

Any CHIMSS Member may attend the CHIMSS Board of Directors meetings, which are held several times during each year. Contact the President or any other Board member to determine the time and location for upcoming Board meetings.

Patrick J. Guffey, MD, President

Patrick is a pediatric anesthesiologist at the University of Colorado and the Associate Clinical Director of the anesthesiology department at Children’s Hospital Colorado. He is the IT clinical champion for perioperative services, and serves on numerous other IT committees at Children’s Colorado. Patrick’s research work centers on using clinical IT and the EMR to further healthcare quality and patient safety, and he has written many articles, abstracts, and lectures on the subject. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a BSE in Chemical Engineering and an MD. He fulfilled his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco and his fellowship training was performed in pediatric anesthesiology at the University of Colorado.



Tamara Havenhill-Jacobs, Past President

Tamara is a Health Information Technology Executive in healthcare with a focus on strategic and operational functions of applications, Health Information Exchange, development of clinically integrated networks, and visioning for where organizations are heading. She has a focus on new and emerging areas within healthcare IT and maintains involvement in regional and national initiatives with a focus on improving care for all patients. Tamara has over 20 years of healthcare experience, which includes ambulatory nursing, imaging background and over 15 years of focused healthcare informatics work. Tamara has held numerous positions on CHIMSS over the past 10+ years, including President, Past President, President-Elect, and Secretary. Tamara is also very active in HIMSS at the National level currently serving on the Innovations Committee and is also serving her 5th year as a Reviewer for HIMSS National Conference.

Sarah Sample-Reif, President Elect

Sarah has served numerous terms on the CHIMSS Board, including President (2012-13), President Elect (2011-12), and Membership Chair (2010-11), and has won the Spirit of HIMSS award for her outstanding dedication to building and promoting CHIMSS. Sarah is also very active in HIMSS National events, including HIT Advocacy and developing numerous collaborations with other State HIMSS Chapters. Sarah brings 15 years of healthcare industry experience in the payer, provider and IT sectors. Sarah is currently the Vice President Health IT for Modis. Sarah’s has been responsible for the successful launch of the Healthcare Vertical for Kforce Colorado. Sarah’s passion for healthcare, technology, and people creates a natural to working simultaneously with consultants and clients. In addition, she is an active in community service for CHSM, CMCC, and First Hand Foundation among others.







Steve Bell, Sponsorship Chair

Steve is excited to return to the CHIMSS board this year.  Steve has served 3 years on the board as Membership and Sponsor chair.  Steve is in sales management with Commvault, which is a data expert company that allows customers to protect, secure, and use their data to gain value for their organization.  He has been in the industry for 24 years and serving healthcare for the last 8 years.

Melissa Pettigrew - Program Chair

Melissa currently serves as the Accounts Director for HCTec Partners. In her three and a half years with HCTec, Melissa has worked with some of the largest clients in the West to deliver creative and effective solutions to staffing. Having lead large-scale Healthcare IT implementation projects across the country, Melissa brings with her extensive knowledge and lessons learned that help guide clients during their journey to clinical transformation through technology. Melissa also gives of her time to a Business for Transformation organization. Partnering with local business leaders to collaborate and share knowledge that is then imparted to entrepreneurs in under-served areas of the world, B4T is currently partnered with a group of entrepreneurs in Nairobi, Kenya setting up an Aquaponics business that will serve the local community.




MariJo Rugh - Program Chair Elect

MariJo is currently the Vice President of Application Services at the University of Colorado Health and has responsibility for the UCHealth Affiliate Program, Ancillary and Clinical Support Applications, Integration and Interface Development, Image Management, Telehealth and Clinical Engineering.  MariJo started as a medical technologist in the laboratory (more years ago than she would like to admit).  She transitioned into healthcare information technology after realizing she wanted to have a broader impact which resulted in time at Cerner, Pyxis, Cincinnati Children’s, Albany Medical Center and Poudre Valley Health System.   Experience includes IT strategy, general management, application implementations, day to day operations and support, vendor relationship management, P&L responsibility, contract negotiations, recruiting and sustaining strong teams.  MariJo completed a Masters degree in Medical Informatics from Northwestern University in 2011.



Thomas Rafter - Membership Chair

Tom Rafter is an IT Healthcare Professional at Boulder Community Health (BCH).  Tom joined BCH in 2012 where he worked in the Emergency Department before joining the IT department.  He brings a deep knowledge of both clinical workflows and healthcare systems with a passion for all things data to his team.  In his role, Tom focuses on EMR integrations, workflow improvement and automation, and data analytics.  Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Colorado, Boulder where he was a member of the CU Freestyle Ski Team.  In his free time, Tom enjoys trail running, rock climbing, skiing, and travel. 


Sara Getz -  Treasurer

Sara Getz is Director of Operations at  DispatchHealth, primarily responsible for the program management of the company's nationwide expansion efforts. With more than 16 years of experience in Healthcare Information Technology, Sara has worked in various sectors of the industry, including Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Electronic Health Records and Pharmacy Benefit Management, holding roles in Development, Product Management, and Operations.  Sara has a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Colorado.  She holds a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute.  Sara has a passion for the healthcare industry and applies her business and operations background to make a positive impact on providers and patients.  Outside of work, Sara enjoys yoga, hiking, gardening, cooking, renovating her historic Denver home, and spending time with her boxer.



Judy McCarthy, Informatics Chair

Judy is responsible for the overall design, implementation, operations and support for the comprehensive computing infrastructure at National Jewish Health.  She also leads an in-house development team in the build and support of a patient portal and is responsible for the organization's technology and information security strategy. 

Judy has more than 30 years of health information technology experience, focusing on technology, applications and IT leadership.  She has held several positions on the board of CHIMSS, is an active member of HIMSS (previously serving on several HIMSS committees) and is an active member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).  She has participated in several speaking engagements on topics such as meaningful use, big data and cyber security. She holds a Master's Degree in Computer Information Systems from Regis University and a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Ball State University.  



Jackie Luchsinger - Informatics Chair Elect

Jackie is a healthcare executive advisor with significant experience leading the delivery of solutions ot complex business issues through personal expertise and leveraging talented individuals.  Jackie has a deep knowledge of the healthcare industry through a broad set of experiences with clinical care management and management consulting. Jackie's passion is to continue to find innovative solutions for the healthcare industry to improve the populations they serve by leveraging business, clinical, consulting, informatics, team development and market growth skills.  





Amy Feaster, Academic Chair

Amy Feaster  is the Vice President of Information Technology for Centura Health. Amy and her teams support 17 hospitals, 7 senior living communities, medical clinics, affiliated partner hospitals, FlightForLife Colorado, 13 Colorado Health Neighborhoods and home care and hospice services with first class Information Technology Support.   Centura Health, the region’s health care leader, is focused on connecting Colorado and Kansas to affordable, world-class care.   All of the Centura hospitals have either achieved HIMSS Stage 7, and Centura has been award the prestigious Davies Award of Excellence for utilizing healthcare IT to achieve significant improvements in patient outcomes.  Amy is the board chair for South Metro Health Alliance and serves on the board of the Colorado HIMSS Chapter.  Amy also serves on the HIMSS Davies Enterprise Committee.  She earned a Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Technology.  Amy has been with Centura Health for over thirty years.  




Justin Aubert, HIE LIaison

Justin Aubert is the CFO and Director of Operations for Quality Health Network (QHN) based in Grand Junction Colorado. Justin joined QHN in 2009 and was also Health Information Exchange (HIE) Operations Director for the Colorado Beacon Consortium. Justin’s diverse role at QHN includes the responsibility to oversee all finance and accounting, business operations, budgeting, contract negotiations, risk management, legal and regulatory compliance, human resources, and facility management. In this role he has created the internal controls and all mechanisms required for the financial reporting to the Board of Directors, federal and state granting sources and
auditing and governmental agencies. 
Prior to joining QHN, Justin had more than 12 years of progressive experience in finance and operations management within startup and established organizations. Justin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Administration (Accounting Major) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado and is a Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR) and Certified Professional in Health Information Technology (CPHIT). QHN’s network collects and distributes data to and from more than 350 disparate organizations’ electronic health record systems representing in excess of 3,850 HIE users in the 40,000 square miles
that constitute the western Colorado medical trade area. Early in 2013, QHN received national
recognition, with the receipt of the Healthcare Informatics Innovator Award from the Healthcare
Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), in honor of their Health IT innovation efforts.







Bonny Roberts, Advocacy Chair

Bonny Roberts is the VP Customer Experience for Diameter Health, an intelligent data refinement solution in the interoperability space. Beginning her career in healthcare IT as Yale New Haven Hospital's Administrative Fellow, she went on to cut her teeth in the Colorado start-up world with CentriMed, an e-commerce company based in Westiminster. CentriMed was quickly acquired by the Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) and she spent four years as a product manager innovating healthcare supply chain. Bonny then went on to facilitate clinician-driven IT project prioritization, custom application development and the implementation of Epic Systems at The Ohio State Medical Center. In 2010, she returned to Colorado to join Aventura where she drove implementation, customer support, account management and for a time sales operations and marketing. Bonny is passionate about furthering the growth of HIT activity along the Front Range and its impact on Colorado. She lives in Superior and enjoys hiking with her dogs, skiing with her husband and watching her two children discover the world around them. 



Michael Jeffries, Advocacy Chair Elect

Michael Jefferies serves as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Boulder Community Health where he is responsible for implementing technology solutions that advance provider capabilities and operational efficiency.  Michael joined Boulder Community Health in 2016 and has diverse work setting experience including acute care hospitals, consulting, healthcare IT outsourcing, and working for a leading Healthcare IT vendor.  Prior to his current role Michael was Vice President of Information Systems at Longmont United Hospital in Boulder County, Colorado and previously worked at ACS/Xerox and McKesson providing IT solutions to hospitals across the country.  He is especially passionate about improving the patient experience and giving providers tools to improve the quality of patient care.  Michael holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of Colorado and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado.  Michael is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds the designation of Certified Healthcare CIO from CHIME as well as certifications as a PMP and CPHIMS. When not serving the community professionally Michael enjoys rock climbing, volunteering in mental healthcare, rebuilding classic motorcycles, and enjoying life in Colorado with his wife and two daughters.



Minal Patel, Communications Chair

Minal is a healthcare IT leader with over 19 years of experience in healthcare organizations, management consulting and software start-up arenas within the provider and payer sectors. She has served on the CHIMSS board for the past 3+ years.  Minal has a strong focus on strategic and operational innovations to improve the overall health of our community.  Minal serves as a Director, Executive Strategy for Bluetree Network.  Prior to Bluetree, Minal was responsible for the successful implementation of a new EHR system and directed the overall application project portfolio at Centura Health.  Minal has also held various roles at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Minal has experience in operational and project management, program direction as well as IT strategy and planning. Minal holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and a Master of Public Health (focused in Healthcare Management) from Emory University.  In her spare time Minal enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, biking, running, basically anything outdoors and cooking.




Jill Sutton, Professional Development

Jill Sutton is the Senior Vice President of Product Management and Editorial for Truven Health Analytics, an IBM Company. In this role, she leads Product Management for Provider markets, with offerings in the area of Care Management, Strategic Planning, Patient Engagement, Analytic Methods, and solutions designed to assist healthcare organizations with Clinical and Operational Performance Improvement. Jill also leads a clinical editorial team developing evidence-based decision support to assist clinicians at the point of care. Jill received her JD from Univeristy of Denver, College of Law.



Lynne VanArsdale, Secretary

Lynne is a health IT innovation professional and serves as Health
Information Exchange Innovations Program Manager for CORHIO. Prior to that she served in various roles for CIVHC, RCCO 7, Colorado Business Group on Health and other non-profit health organizations. Lynne completed a Master of Science degree at
UC Denver Health Sciences in the Clinical Sciences department, with a focus on Health IT. Her research investigates the association between delivering typical care for chronic disease and total cost of care. VanArsdale served as Product Director for Payer Products within the OptumInsight Claims Integrity and Connectivity group. Prior to OptumInsight, she was Director of Product Management for Rolta TUSC Software Center of Excellence where she led a program to create a service oriented technology platform. Before joining Rolta TUSC, she held senior director and senior manager positions with data storage and software technology companies. VanArsdale is a Certified Information Systems Manager and a CompTIA Security+ certified professional. She holds Project Management Professional Certification. She completed black belt training in transactional six sigma methodology, and has achieved New Product Development Professional certification, as well as Pragmatic Marketing certification. She was a CHIMSS scholarship recipient and served as the CHIMSS Academic Chair and the CHIMSS Professional Development Chair. She is also recognized as a HIMSS Senior Member. She has served on the board of the
Pikes Peak chapter of the Project Management Institute. Additionally she is a founder of the National Center for Health Cybersecurity. She has served on state-wide teams for payment reform, data transparency and a panel of technology leaders advising the state-wide health information exchange. She served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and two years as a member of the Rocky Mountain Product Development and Management Association Board of Directors. VanArsdale holds an MBA from the University of Houston, a Master of Science in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Cornell University. Lynne is a resident of upper Peregrine for almost 18 years, is the wife
of William VanArsdale and mother to three grown children. She is an avid hiker, bicyclist, snowshoer, and skier. Her hobbies include landscaping, pottery making and music.



CT Lin, MD, Physician Member at Large

CT Lin MD is CMIO at UCHealth. In 2016, UCHealth achieved HIMSS Stage 7, indicating highest achievement in EHR effectiveness. He is Professor of Medicine a University of Colorado School of Medicine, and board-certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He sees internal medicine patients and also facilitates workshops on "Physician-patient communication to improve health outcomes" for students, residents and practicing physicians. His national publications and talks include: Physician Adoption of IT, EHR Usability, Online patient communication and patient accessible records with Open Test Results and Open Notes. His national awards include "Healthcare IT innovator" and "Electronic Physician of the Year." He leads a team of 24 physician informaticians. "We improve physician and team resilience and effectiveness by building world-class relationships and innovative tools."




Jeffrey Pelot - Board Member at Large

Jeffrey Pelot is the Chief Information Officer the Denver Health and Hospital, Colorado’s largest safety net health care systems.  Mr. Pelot has been recognized as a leader in healthcare technology and most recently been awarded the CIO Top 100 Award from CIO Magazine and Computerworld’s Premier 100 award in recognition of his leadership for integrating advanced technology solutions in healthcare.  Mr. Pelot is a Certified Healthcare CIO (CHIME) HIMSS Fellow and currently serves on the Colorado Chapter of HIMSS.  He has authored numerous articles and given many presentations on various aspects of Healthcare Information Technology and obtaining value from the technology investment. Under Mr. Pelot’s leadership Denver Health has grown into a technology innovator that drives enterprise changes in workflow and process that increase efficiencies, reduce cost, enhance the way care is delivered and how quality outcomes are measured.
